Yap Audio to Text is a free browser-based tool that turns MP3, M4A, WAV or video files into editable text and SRT or VTT subtitles. The speech model, OpenAI Whisper, runs inside your browser, so the file is never uploaded to a server. There is no sign-up and no minute limit. Files up to 60 minutes and 300 MB are supported.

Choose English mode for speed, or Any language mode, which recognizes 99 languages and detects the spoken language without translating it. The recording is cut at natural pauses, so each subtitle has accurate start and end times. You can edit the transcript in the browser, copy it, or save it as a text file.

The tool is made by the team behind the Yap dictation app for Mac and Windows, published by O-mega Enterprise Inc.
